Group exercise with elements of Pilates method in individuals with ankylosing spodylitis - comparison with control group
Bendzová, Pavlína ; Levitová, Andrea (advisor) ; Majorová, Simona (referee)
Title: Group exercise with elements of the method Pilates in individuals with ankylosing spondylitis - comparisons with the control group Objective: Find impact of group therapy with engaging Pilates method to movability of axial system, functional status, activity of disease and total health status of individuals with ankylosing spondylitis. Compare this method with compensation group motion program in individuals with ankylosing spondylitis. Methods: 26 individuals with ankylosing spondylitis of average age (38,25 ± 9,18) attending Institute of Rheumatology in Prague were chosen. Probands were split into two groups: experimental group, which were doing motion program with elements of Pilates (n=13), and control group, which were attending compensation group motion program in individuals with ankylosing spondylitis. It was empirical quantitative research, exactly comparative quasiexperiment, where was compared individual groups in between (inter-group) and, moreover, influence of individual motion programs (intra-group). Data gathering was executed twice - at the beginning of quasiexperiment (pre-test) and at the end (3 months after; post-test). Those parameters were examined: Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Metrology Index for axial system region and expansion of chest, Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis...
Possibilities of prevention reflecting geriatric principles: Functional status and depressivity in old age
Vaňková, Hana ; Čelko, Alexander (advisor) ; Dohnal, Karel (referee) ; Jirák, Roman (referee)
Possibilities of prevention reflecting geriatric principles: Functional status and depressivity in old age Hana Vaňková, MD Abstract Background: Given the population ageing in Europe and in the Czech Republic, strategies aiming to prevent functional decline in older age are of great importance. Depression in old age increases functional decline and is also associated with increased morbidity, mortality and deterioration of quality of life (Anstey et al., 2007; Karakaya et al., 2009). Therefore, there is a need for a comprehensive intervention addressing both functional status and depressive symptoms. Methods: Using comprehensive geriatric assessment, the relationship between functional status and depressive symptoms was examined in 308 residents of long-term care facilities (RCFs) in the Czech Republic. Depressive symptoms were measured using the 15-item Geriatric Depression Scale. An additional randomized control trial (RCT) evaluated the effect of a dance-based therapy on depressive symptoms in 162 institutionalized older adults with average age over 80 years. Results: A multiple regression analyses adjusted for sociodemographic factors and for taking antidepressants found that cognitive function and functional limitation by pain were most strongly associated with depressive symptoms. The ability to...
Nutritional and functional status of clients living in homes for the elderly
Dvořáková, Tereza ; Vágnerová, Tereza (advisor) ; Mádlová, Pavla (referee)
Objectives: The aim of this cross-sectional study was to assess the nutritional status and physical performance of the individuals over 65 years living in home for the elderly and as the main research question to assess whether there is a correlation between impaired nutritional status and worsened physical performance in older adults. Also tests whether the unwanted weight loss for the last 3 month affects impaired results in a standardized SPPB test and handgrip test. And finally, verify whether the optimal BMI valided for the elderly predispozes a good physical performance and considered as a protective factor in case of frailty - on functional status. Methods: The research was executed by a quantitative method with the investigation of respondents as a data collection technique. To elaborate the practical part and answer the research questions were used outputs from nutritional status testing (BMI, nutritional status according to MNA-FF, SMI) and functional evaluation (dynamometry, SPPB battery). The results of these variables diagnosed seniors in the norm, at risk and with pathology. Results: The resulting research sample consisted of 40 seniors, of whom 29 were women (72,5 %) and 11 were men (27,5 %). The normal nutritional status was found in the majority of participants - 67,5 %, the risk...

Practical application of ICF
SVĚCENÁ, Kateřina
The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is a tool that could help improve the coordination between health and social services. This classification will help with communication as a common language in interprofessional rehabilitation team. The research objective of our thesis is to investigate the practical applicability of ICF in health and social services in the field of regulations governing entitlement to "special aids", i.e. Act No. 329/2011 and Decree No. 388/2011, as amended.
